Beniamin Poghosyan: Everything goes back to the way: President Trump is returning to the Bush

It is extremely difficult to pursue a balanced policy in the case of strained relations between the ally and the partners.

Everything goes back to the way. President Trump is returning to the Bush's policy. Deputy head of National defense research university, MoD, RA Beniamin Poghosyan clarifies that the foregoing refers to the Middle East policy. “At the core of US policy, Trump is trying to put the US alliance with Sunni monarchies by adopting a tougher policy toward Iran,” Poghosyan notes.

As for the geopolitical positioning of Armenia against the background of the new US policy in the Middle East, Benjamin Poghosyan emphasizes, Armenia should pursue a balanced foreign policy in all possible ways.

“Our strategic ally is Russia, and we are a member of a number of military-political and economic organizations under the leadership of Russia. At the same time, Armenia continues to maintain good neighborly relations with the powers of the West. Definitely, it is quite hard because when the relationships between your ally and your partners are strained, it is rather difficult to keep the balance,” Poghosyan emphasizes.
