Nikol Pashinyan will face great challenges in Sochi – Areg Galstyan

What should the new PM Nikol Pashinyan do in Sochi.

To bare the teeth at the EAEU summit on May 14 or not? What should the new PM Nikol Pashinyan do in Sochi, so that there will be no discontent in Armenia and indignation in Sochi? Areg Galstyan, head of the analytical center “The Armenian Interest”, in response to this question, first quotes Bismarck's words that politics is the art of the possible, and adds, so it is impossible to approach such complex issues categorically. “We must find something in-between, so that the interests of Armenia are protected and that our partners do not think that the new prime minister is already making demands,” he says.

According to Areg Galstyan, it is necessary to carry out “comprehensive work” concerning the negotiations with Russia and Kazakhstan. “If you reach an agreement with Russia, you will get it with Belarus too, but that does not mean that Kazakhstan will also agree. Professional expert groups should work effectively in these two directions, preparing specific speeches and understanding the political culture of Kazakhstan and Russia, the political portrait of Putin and Nazarbayev,” the analyst notes.

Areg Galstyan also adds that at the meeting, every word should be reasoned, extremely cautious, but very clear in terms of protecting Armenian interests. “If Putin and Nazarbayev do not accept Pashinyan in personal terms, then they will not accept him at the state level, they will create problems and put preconditions,” the head of the research center says.
