Turkologist Geghamyan and orientalist Petrosyan’s commentary on Turkey’s actions in Syria

Why has Turkey launched a military operation against Kurds now?

A few days ago, Turkey launched a military operation against Kurdish forces in the Syrian city of Afrin. Why Turkey initiated these actions now? In response to this question, Turkologist Varuzhan Geghamyan notes we should view Turkey's actions from two perspectives. “The first is preventing the independence of Kurds, the second is the evident desire of Turkey to revise the outcomes of the World War I. Actually, Turkey's current borders are the heritage left after the World War I, and today some unique domestic needs are present in Turkey,” he says.

As the turkologist points out on the way to the implementation of these actions, Turkey does not face any obstacles, international players do not react in any way.

And what would be the order of things if Syria were not a “failed state”? Would Turkey be able to carry out similar actions in the territory of a sovereign state? What would be the reaction of the international community? Օrientalist Armen Petrosyan will answer these questions. Find the most interesting details of the conversation in the program “Paradigm”.
